Munich, December 10, 2024 — Thorsten Schaar is new VP Sales at Foodji, the young food tech market leader from Munich. Since August, he has been managing sales and account management for the up-and-coming scale-up. Foodji offers intelligent food vending machines for flexible employee catering and has just secured access to growth capital of up to 25 million euros. The company wants to use the capital to grow faster and further expand its market presence. Thorsten Schaar wants to play a decisive role in shaping this growth. The experienced transformation expert comes from coaching provider CoachHub, where, as Vice President and Country Manager DACH, he further developed activities in German-speaking countries and promoted international expansion. Thorsten Schaar previously worked for HR software provider Haufe-umantis for ten years. There he initially held leading positions in sales and business development before working intensively on organizational development and corporate transformation as lead “Enterprise Agility.”

Vision: Healthy eating at work becomes standard

Thorsten Schaar also wants to initiate changes in his new role at Foodji: “Many employers overlook the impact of healthy employee catering on the motivation and well-being of their employees — we urgently need a rethink here. Especially in these tense economic times, companies must understand that employee wellbeing is a central component of corporate success. People only enjoy coming to work when they feel comfortable at work — and a full range of nutrition is crucial. After the financing round that has just been closed and with my highly motivated go-to-market team, I am looking forward to leading Foodji's next growth phase. We have no less plans than establishing healthy food as a standard in every company — and finally making employee catering a top priority.” Foodji CEO and Co-Founder Felix Munte is also pleased with the strengthening: “Our working world is currently undergoing fundamental change. With Thorsten, we have gained an experienced sales expert who also has comprehensive knowledge of current transformation processes. Foodji is growing rapidly — and we are just beginning to tap into the huge market for employee catering. We are looking forward to achieving the next milestones together.”

Supply gap in company catering in medium-sized companies

Foodji was founded in 2016 and has been on the market since 2019. The company has developed a food vending machine of the same name, which uses intelligent technology to provide fresh food around the clock. Foodji is thus addressing an enormous market: An estimated 90 percent of the more than 80,000 medium-sized companies in Germany do not provide their employees with food at work.
