How Foodji reduced costs for an automotive supplier
The German automotive industry in transition
The German automotive industry is currently facing major challenges. The transition to electric mobility is gaining momentum, and many manufacturers are struggling with high production costs, uncertain supply chains and fierce international competition, particularly from China. At the same time, political and social pressure is mounting to operate more sustainably and comply with stricter CO₂ targets.
In order to remain competitive, companies are investing heavily in new technologies such as battery production, software development and autonomous driving. Nevertheless, cost savings are increasingly becoming the focus of attention – the effects of the upheaval are particularly noticeable for suppliers and smaller companies.
Many companies are therefore looking for ways to reduce their operating costs. This increasingly affects costs and investments in the area of human resources. As a result, company restaurants and canteens, among other things, are being closed for economic reasons. This is a way for companies to cut costs, but it sends a difficult signal to employees, especially if meals and social interaction during breaks were seen as an integral part of the corporate culture. In economically challenging times in particular, this can put additional strain on employee satisfaction. In an innovation-driven industry, flexible concepts in this area will play a decisive role in the future and help companies remain competitive in the ‘war for talent’.

Fast and flexible supply around the clock - even in production
A leading company in the automotive supply industry faced the challenge of providing an optimal catering solution for all employees. While an existing canteen was primarily accessible to administrative staff, production employees had only limited access to fresh food.
In order to ensure comprehensive provision, an expansion of the canteen service was considered. However, this would have involved considerable investment and a sharp rise in operating costs.
The staff-run canteen had the following disadvantages: limited availability, unequal treatmentof employees and high running costs

Foodji: Reliable supply situation
In search of a cost-effective yet high-quality alternative, the company tested Foodji for three months. The positive experience led to the canteen being completely replaced by Foodji.
Today, the company is supplied by eight Foodjis, which are accessible to all employees in administration and production. The partnership with Foodji has improved the supply situation, increased employee satisfaction and is valued as a valuable part of the working environment.
Highlights of the decision
By using Foodji, the automotive supplier was able to find an economically and organisationally sensible solution for employee catering. The combination of low costs, high flexibility and a menu tailored to demand makes Foodji the ideal alternative to the traditional canteen.

Foodji as a values benefit in all departments
Foodji offers high-quality meals around the clock for all employees, whether in the office or in production. The range is individually planned by AI: rotating from a total of 300 changing fresh dishes.
The wishes of the administrative staff are fulfilled: more light dishes such as salads and bowls are offered.
The wishes of the production staff are fulfilled: hearty, wholesome offerings with traditional meat dishes.
Space-saving solution without investment in infrastructure and personnel: only 1 square metre and a regular power connection per Foodji.
The daily range at Foodji is as follows:
- 9 different main courses
- 10 breakfast and snack dishes
- 10 Snacks
- 10 drinks
It is refilled 2–3 times a week, depending on whether work is carried out on 5 or 7 days.
By switching to Foodji, the company was able to save over 70% of its running costs compared to its previous canteen solutions. In addition, employees benefit from 24/7 access to fresh, high-quality meals, regardless of their shift or workplace.
